Making predictions is a venerable pastime in show business (think carnivals, vaudeville). The 24/7 news cycle (a modern form of show business) is mostly responsible for all the predictions that bombard us because all the pundits have to say something. However, pundits, like psychiatrists (or other mental health professionals) are bad at predicting the future. Finally, I love watching Jon Stewart on the Daily Show airing videotapes of pundits and politicians contradicting their own statements. Mission accomplished, anyone?
